"Then the Lord gave the donkey the ability to speak. “What have I done
to you that deserves your beating me three times?” it asked Balaam. “You
have made me look like a fool!” Balaam
shouted. “If I had a sword with me, I would kill you!”. But I am the
same donkey you have ridden all your life,” the donkey answered. “Have I
ever done anything like this before?”
“No,” Balaam admitted. Then
the Lord opened Balaam’s eyes, and he saw the angel of the Lord standing
in the roadway with a drawn sword in his hand. Balaam bowed his head
and fell face down on the ground before him." - Numbers 22-28-31
_________
A man named Balaam was riding his donkey on his way to do something God
didn't want him to do. God sent an angel to intervene. The donkey could
see the angel, but Balaam couldn't. When the donkey tried to veer off
the path, Balaam beat the donkey, which lead to the conversation between
Balaam and his donkey that you just read.
I think a lesson for
us is that we need to learn to recognize God's truth and guidance, no
matter how He chooses to reveal it to us. Sometime we reject what is
truth because of where it's coming from. Sometimes we reject God's
guidance because we already have our minds made up to do our own thing
our own way.
I might not know everything, but one thing I do
know...I don't want to be so hard-headed that God has to use a talking
donkey to change my mind. How about you?
