There's Power In Prayer!!
James 5:16 "Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective."
I'm sure that many of you have experienced the true power of prayer. You have prayed and it did more than offer you an opportunity to get things off your chest. It was more than a vain attempt to hope in something higher. You have prayed and seen things change. Maybe not right then; maybe not how you imagined or planned, but you prayed and things changed. I know I have.
James here writes, "the prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective". You know as we read the bible, our eyes often focus on the things we want to focus on, at the exclusion of very important truths. When I first read this verse, my eyes zoomed in on the part about prayer being powerful and effective. I then started to imagine me praying for things I want, and I receiving them. But I overlooked the disclaimer...of a righteous man.
That does not mean that a person who is always good, will always get what he or she prays for. Righteous man here means one who has the righteousness of Christ, or more plainly put, is right with God. The only way we can get right with God is to have Jesus in our heart. Then God no longer sees our righteousness, which the Word describes as filthy rags, but instead sees the righteousness of Christ, which was substituted for us on the cross.
Are you right with God? Before you can have powerful and effective prayers, you have to believe in Jesus and claim Him as your savior. Psalm 66:18 says "If I had cherished sin in my heart,
the Lord would not have listened".
Receive Jesus, and you will find out that There's Power in Prayer!
